Film Title Sequence Creation

For my title sequence I had that decided that after  the initial introductory scene I would insert a fade to black title sequence. I decided that I would make this sequence in Adobe After Effects so that I could make them appear more active than premieres stills and crawls.

I  need to decide how I want each line of text to enter in the sequence.

Short Film Script V3

Scene 1

(Malcolm walks down stairs)

(Malcolm Investigates fruit basket, finds bomb,  throws, picks up ringing phone)

X: Hello Myers I hope you enjoyed the gift

Malcolm: Wh..wha..whats the hells going on!

X: Well Myers, you may remember that father of yours,  the one who abandoned you and your poor mother

Malcolm: How do you kno..(Cut off)

X: That father of yours left quite the debt for you, but I am a generous man Mr Myers, I have a task for you where you can pay it off nice and easy.

Malcolm: Why would I do anything for a dick who just tried to kill(Cut off)

X: Kate was it? 23 years old, recently engaged I believe, now who could that lucky man be

Malcolm: Don’t you touch her!

X: I’m sure you’ve heard of the recently discovered Jewel of Atem that’s been all over the news lately, I desire said jewel so I would like you to steal it.

Malcolm: And how am I suppose to manage that

X: I told you before I am a very generous man Myers, If you check your kitchen draw you’ll find a dossier of potential partners for this heist, It will be up to you to convince them though.

X: Oh and I’ll be sending someone to act as your driver whilst you wait for repairs.

Malcolm: What do you mean damages

(X hangs up)

(Malcolm runs to door)

(Hears car alarm, clicks key)

Malcolm: (Sighs) Oh fuck me

Scene 2

(Malcolm walking in kitchen with dossier)

Malcolm: Ugh lets get this over with, who’s the first on here

Malcolm: Lets see Andrew Davison, eccentric master thief, owns a club called ‘The Closet’, wonder why its called that.

(Cuts to Closet Entrance)

Malcolm: Oh….

(Malcolm in Andrews Office)

(Man puts coffee on table)

Andrew: Thanks babe, so Malcolm, what is it that you want from me today

Malcolm: Well I need to pull of a heist and steal that Jewel of Atem that’s been over the news lately

Andrew: Ohh I love the look of that gem, looks simply fabulous

Malcolm: Yeah well I need to steal

Andrew: Right you’re working for Mr.X  I believe

Malcolm: How did you know that

Andrew: Oh honey please, I’m a master thief I have my sources  (Winks)

Malcolm: So will you help?

Andrew: Sure I would love to see that jewel up close.

Malcolm: All right I’ll contact you again with the time and date.

Andrew: Your not leaving already are you, come on stick around I’ll buy you a drink, maybe some dinner

Malcolm: Um no I really need to be going

(Malcolm Runs for the exit)

                                                  

Scene 3

Malcolm: Ok so next we have Mark, expert hacker, ex-member of the gecko-team…(Cut off)

Mark: Hacked Sony, Microsoft, North Korea and gained access to the prime minister’s private network., Hi I’m Mark.

Malcolm: Right well I’m (Cut off)

Mark: Malcolm Myers, screwed over by your father, you’re now working for a Mr.X and your currently putting together a team to steal the Jewel of Atem.

Malcolm: How did you…(Cut off)

Mark: I have my...(Cut off)

Malcolm: You have your sources I’ve been getting that way too much today.

Mark: Well anyway if you want me help, you’ll have to do something for me first

Malcolm: What is it?

Mark: Well this will be a difficult task, are you sure you’re up for it.

Malcolm: Yeah lets just get this over with

(Cuts to Malcolm and Mark)

Malcolm: (Out of Breath) That was easily the most terrifying thing I’ve ever done

Mark: Yeah laundry day Is pretty dangerous around here

Malcolm: I think the sock tried to bite me

Mark: Well thanks for that, You can count me in for the heist

Malcolm: yeah, thanks

(Malcolm bends over like he’s about to vomit)

Alex: Easy there buddy

*Fades to Black

Scene 4

Malcolm: Ok next up, Alice…an assassin…great because I haven’t had enough people trying to murder me today…

(Man and Woman go into alley)

Malcolm: Oh the wonders of young love

(Hears girly scream)

Malcolm: Or maybe not

(Malcolm runs to alley)

Malcolm: Well that’s different

(Dead man on floor,)

(Alice puts Malcolm up to wall, holds knife to throat)

Malcolm: I take it you’re the assassin

Alice: Yes

Malcolm: And you think I’m trying to take you out?

Alice: Yes

Malcolm: Look I was trying to hire you

Alice: Why didn’t you go to my office?

Malcolm: You have an office?

Alice: Yes, the address and office number is here on my business card

Malcolm: Isn’t an assassin supposed to be secretive?

Alice: Are they?

Malcolm: Your not very good at this are you

(Alice punches Malcolm in stomach)

Malcolm: Ow ok I get it, anyway I want to hire you for a heist, are you interested

Alice: Yes, are you paying with cash or by card?

Malcolm: Uhh send the invoice to a Mr.X

Alice: All right contact me when you’re ready

Malcolm: So not to be a bother but could you remove that knife from my throat

Alice: Sorry I forgot

 (Alice puts knife away)

(Punches Malcolm again)

Malcolm(On Floor): Was that really needed

*Fades to black

Half Term Filming Plan

Now that I have everything I need for filming I decided to create a basic table detailing where each scene will be filmed, which characters are needed for each scene and what time would be most suited.

Film Title Ideas

In order to complete my film review and film poster I needed to decide on a name for the film. I have been gathering thoughts about what the film should be called throughout the year.

 I have already crossed out a few, The Heist and The Expendables were already film names, and The Z Team felt like an outdated reference to the ATeam.

I next decided on crossing out a few more. I crossed out The Robbery as I felt it didn't really capture what the film is about. I crossed out Don't learn this in College as I thought that the title was too long and wasn't really catchy. I crossed out X's Game as I felt it was a bit too serious sounding and also sounded far to generic.

I next again narrowed down my choice. I removed The Worst Kind of Heist for being too long a title. I crossed out A Jewel of a Job as I just didn't like it. A league of their own and A Heist too far were not catchy or memorable enough so again I crossed it out. I also made a few adjustments to the other titles. The Disposables is now just Disposable, The underachievers is now just Underachievers.

Crossed out My kind of Heist, the title was ok but It wasn't as good as the others I thought.

In the end I decided on choosing the title 'Screwed' as I thought that not only is it memorable and catchy, but it also sums up Malcolm's situation.

Script Amendments

I decided on making some alterations to the script as I felt that some of the  dialogue was rushed and didn't flow as well as I would like.


Scene 4

Malcolm: So where are we now?

Alex: The lair of one of the worlds greatest hackers

Malcolm: Right we need one of those don't we

Alex: Yeah this guy apparently used to be part of that famous hacker group uhh the gecko team I think

Malcolm: Didn't they hack playstation that one time

(Mark Slides into shot on office chair)
Mark: Sony, Microsoft, Google and North Korea, Hi there I'm Mark

Alex: Right so we're...
(Cut off by Mark)

Mark: Your forming a team to steal the Jewel off Atem, your being blackmailed by a Mr.X and came here to request my help

Malcolm: How did you know that?

Mark: I have my sources, anyway my answers no, I have much better things to do

Alex: Now what if I had these
(Reveals small case)

Mark: D -Don't tell me thats....

Alex: Thats right, the limited edition platinum Wookie Mini-Figure

Mark: Fine I'll join you
(Alex Tosses case to Mark)

Mark: Tell me when you decide on your time and date, I'll be waiting

(Alex and Malcolm Exit)


Scene 5

Malcolm: Alright who are we looking for

Alex: Well theres suppose to be some assassin girl living around here, I heard she does local jobs so maybe we can just hire her?

Malcolm: And just how much is that going cost

Alex: Well I'm sure if we'll have enough between us

Malcolm: I hope your right

(Sees Alice walking into ally with man)

Alex: You don't think?

Malcolm: No couldn't be

(Hears girlish screams)

(Malcolm and Alex run into alley)

(Mans dead body lying in shadows of alley)

Malcolm: Well thats different

Alex: (Walking up to Alice) So you must be the assassin right we have a - (Cut off)

(Alice pins Alex to the ground, holds knife at throat)

Alice: Who are you and what do you want?

Malcolm: Woah woah, easy now, we just wanted to hire you for a job

Alice: Then why didn't you use the business address, Its on all my business cards

Malcolm: Wait you have business cards? Why would an assassin use those, isn't this an illegal business?

Alice: Yes

Malcolm: And your just letting everyone know your address?

Alice: Yes

Malcolm: Right, anyway were planning a hiest to steal the Jewel of Atem, would you be able to help

Alice: Yes

Malcolm: All right I'll leave you and my friend there to arrange the payments

Alex: Wait what?

(Malcolm Walks off)

Alex:(Looking Down) You Bastard...
